After watching the news of the hurricanes, tonados, earthquakes, wildfires, and tsunamis and seeing all the destruction... I started thinking about survivable buildings. I remembered the Monolithic Dome Home website and looked at some of the news reports on those homes that encountered disasters.

Also, these homes are very insulated with an R-60 insulation value.

Here is a ton of information.

Well, I´ve seen quite a lot in my 69 years so far and I not only hope but expect to see a lot more. But the first thing to deal with right now, in my bird´s-eye view is in the here and now, survival in self-sustainable communities, even if it means relinquishing a lot of the technology, science and mechanics that bring comfort to modern life, and going back to basics and digging into the soil to get our food growing...

The way the world is going is self-destructive. We don´t even need ETs to help us implode our civilization. In fact, I call it "sifilization", lol.

Well. That´s that. So maybe if we go back to basics, you and I might yet come to see new wonders, miracles and a rebirth of a saner society.

Thanks, Boris. Right! We're still a few centuries away from this type of endeavor. However, when capitalism and science make it happen, I hope I'll be able to see it, somehow.

Well, the idea William is valid but how would we go about it and how long would it be before we get there and somehow tether in to all that methane?

And of course, it would take the powergrabbers a lot less time to filter it through their meters and charge us for it, even after having used up all our taxes and savings to do the job, if at all.

But the big question is, the way they are going, will WE last that long? lol

We need practical and short term reeducation to be thrifty with what we have and get it out of the moneymongers hands before any sensible solution to the new forthcoming collapses come on the scene.

Nonetheless, your input is food for thought.

Oh, and thank you Steve for putting this together and for inviting me.
William Baranowski Comment by William Baranowski on October 14, 2008 at 3:58am
Per a recent show on the Science Channel, one of our large, remote planets in the solar system is primarily composed of methane gas. More than enough to power the earth's energy needs for centuries, if not millenia. So, let's figure out a way to get some of it from THERE to HERE! You asked for huge...Perhaps one way would e to go there and build some sort of converter to use the methane to generate microwave or laser energy that could be transmitted back, at light speed, to transformer/converters in earth orbit for use in powering generators on earth. Endless energy for earth. Go ahead, rip it apart, but, try to come up with something that would net the same result. Earth orbit solar wind converter/transmitters? It's time we solved this energy thing once and for all.
Then, we could do the easily achievable genetic and medical "tweaks" that would yield virtually eternal human life, without having to die, first, to get it.

Or, at least, how about completing the research and delivering on Kurzweil's idea about "downloading and recording" one's total experiential memory for use at the death of the physical body, thus insuring the continuation of the deceased's consciousness for an unlimited time after physical death.

Those are some of the things I'd sink $ 700 billion into. Maybe we should invite Paul and Bill and Steve to this group? Can anyone here make that happen?

Alexander,

You and I have already helped a small village in the Andes with the solar devices.

Thank you

Hi, Steve,
Thanks for the invitation!
I have enjoyed all of the videos posted so far in this discussion. They definitely helped give me the inspiration I need.

Earlier there was a discussion about war being an action of the heart, not the mind. When we connect the mind and the heart, that's when it seems the best solutions for peace, harmony, and global happiness will occur. Getting the two parts to agree is the fun challange, though:)

Brightest Blessings,

Heidi
