Why Stress is Really Fear by another Name

I've been saying that the reason we aren't getting what we want is ultimately about our fear. Our anxiety, depression, negative thinking - all of it. But fear isn't the name most of us use to define the problems in our lives. Stress is what we call it. The truth is it doesn't matter what name we use, the important thing is to understand what it is doing to us and how it affects our creating with thought.

We know that what we think creates our lives. We know that stress/fear doesn't feel good so it can't be creating anything we really like if we don't shift off of the stress/fear and on to the state of mind we do want. But why is it SO hard for so many women to make that mental shift?

When you are feeling stress you activate the stress response in your brain and body. In your brain this means that the fear and anxiety circuits are activated. When stress becomes a chronic state structural changes in the brain and body begin to occur.

Some of those changes include the body's ability to "switch" the stress response off. This can feel like chronic anxiety or an overreaction to life's events that intuitively you recognize shouldn't make you react as much as you are. It can also mean that your body becomes depleted from many of the chemicals such as neurotransmitters that are responsible for your moods, thoughts and wellness.

What feels like anxiety can then chemically trigger depression which can then trigger more anxiety until you are going around and around and feeling out of control! Eventually it can feel like you've lost control of your mood and this leads to more depression as hopelessness and helplessness set in.

The good news is your brain is pliable and capable of healing no matter what! Why it can be helpful to understand what may be happening in your brain and body is that it is easier to let go of our self-judgment and frustration about why it may be harder for you to make the mental shifts out of fear/stress compared to others.

This is just a quick example of how fear can alter your brain and affect your ability to create the life you desire. Healing your brain and body are most effective when you first understand what is happening and then make changes that include all four aspects of ourselves: body, mind, heart and spirit!
